Christ is born! Glorify Him!
From all of us on the New Calender: Kala Christouyianna to you and yours.
So what is everyone doing for Christmas? My dad and I went to an all-night vigil at a convent near hear last night, and we are going to my aunt's house later for dinner.
Kyrie Iesou Christe eleison me. |

Hey,
The Coptic Orthodox Church celebrates christmas on the 7th of January, so.. 2 more weeks for me. But to everyone who celebrates it on the 25th, Merry Christmas :)
++++++++++ It's important to distinguish between the means and the goal. |

Hi, John! I hope that you and your family are having a great Christmas. A Russian Orthodox friend of mine and I (Greek Orthodox) have been wanting to visit an Orthodox monastery/convent. I'm glad to know that there is one as close as Pittsburgh. Is there a monastery associated with this convent? Is it Greek Orthodox? Do they allow over-night guests? Any info that you could provide would be very much appreciated. Wishing you and yours many blessings for the new year. - John Seraphim

Well it's one of Geronda Ephraim's monasteries, so it is indeed ascociated with many monasteries all over the country, both men's and women's. There are not, however, any men's monasteries here in PA that are under Geronda Ephraim. The nearest men's monastery is St. Gregory Palamas in Ohio, but it's not one of his.
So yes, it is indeed a Greek convent. It's called "Nativity of the Theotokos Monastery." They do allow over-night guests, as long as you call ahead of time, tell them when you intend to show up and for how long you plan to stay, and get a blessing to do so. Their number is 724-352-3999. (Don't worry mods and admins, they have no problem with their number being public. In fact, I found it on a website.) The abbess is Gerontissa Theophano, and she is very nice.
If you are interrested, they are doing another vigil on New Years Eve for St. Basil. It starts at 7:30.
Maybe we'll see each other. (I wear a rasso as I am a former seminarian, so I'm easily distinguishable. Red hair, 6'4. )

Thank you so much, John. As far as I know, I will most likely be up during Great Lent. I'll be sure to let you know exactly when. Yours, in the One True Holy Orthodox Church - John Seraphim
