I am not religious but I have my reasons to believe there is a non-physical force out there that reacts to our thoughts and actions. Some label it as The Matrix, Infinite Intelligence or God. I do believe The Bible holds many true life + success lessons anyone can learn from towards a happier and successful life.
While that particular translation does not, to my knowledge, have official approval, I have read an earlier version and found it to be excellent and very faithful to the original language. I think the price has worked against its wider acceptance and that the author/translator has come out with the Lulu format in order to make frequent updates. This does not apply to the New Testament volumes as much as the Old. I cannot comment on the rest of your post, really.
There really is nothing wrong with the Orthodox Study Bible (complete version, not just NT). That way you will get the full canon of books with reasonable commentary.
I am finding the orthodox study bible a really helpful aid in understanding the scriptures. The commentary really helps you understand the context with which things are said.....thoroughly recommended.
