Those who have read the Philokalia on prayer will never participate in the "Charismatic" movement. When you stand next to people babbling, who are are they babbling to? Is it Praise for God? Is it in humility? Are they speaking to satan?
Christ teaches us how to pray in humility (luke 18:10-14), which is consistent with the Psalm 50 (or 51). Of course, St Paul talked about babbling too.
The Orthodox Church continues to follow the teaching of Christ, which I think is what must do. |
